So I've been playing Final Fantasy 14 lately and my CPU usage goes between 65% and 75% when I'm playing at high settings. This, in my eyes, is a fine amount of CPU usage for a such a graphically demanding game. However, most of the time I have a twitch video playing on my second monitor and with the twitch video playing my CPU usage shoots up to around 85% to 95% (at graphically demanding moments). However, my temps barely ever go above 60c for each core.

My question is, is running at 85% to 95% CPU usage at around 60c to 62c temps for a long period of time safe? Sometimes I'll play 4 or 5 hours a day, even more when I don't have work or anything else to do (sometimes up to 7 or 8 hours).

CPU: i5 3570k

perfectly fine if the temps are good you will have no problems

Coolcole said it, but you're perfectly fine, as long as the temps are as you say.

Just to make sure I understand completely. CPU usage doesn't matter as long as my temps are as they are? Even if they max at 98% for a couple of minutes?

+1 for coolcole01. You're good to go as long as the temperature is at a good range. The following values will let you know the maximum temperature, a CPU can withstand.

Standard Ambient = 22C
Tcase (CPU Temp) = 72C
CPU / Core Offset + 5C
Tjunction (Core Temp) = 77C
Tj Max (Shutdown Temp) = 105C

And if you feel like you want to reduce the CPU usage, go to msconfig (through RUN command) -> Services -> and uncheck the following parameters -

> Application Experience

> Application Management

> Computer Browser

> IP Helper

> Windows Media Player Network Sharing Service

> Encrypting File System (EFS)

> Background Intelligent Transfer Service

These are few services that can be unchecked because these are not really necessary while gaming. It would give you some room for your games to work flawlessly. Hope it helped you.

that i5 can run those temps 24/7 for years on end with 100% utilization. you're fine bro. Talk to the people doing folding@home about the type of abuse a cpu can take. seriously... 24/7 - 100% utilization, often overclocked and running quite a bit hotter then that. with their gpu redlining to the wall as well with maxed out utilization. it's pretty impressive actually.

so yeah... you're good. now if those temps were +20C hotter? yeah... i'd probably find a way to cool that cpu off a bit. otherwise it's all good.

Alright, thanks to all of you guys! I've never had my cpu temps even get near to 70c so I'll probably be fine. Again, thanks!
