Upgraded gpu and cooler and getting much worse temps.

I have an i5 3570k cpu with an asus p8z77v-lk motherbard. I was previously using a gigabyte 7850 gpu and a corsair h60 water cooler. I used the bios ez mode optimal setting for a quick overclock because I knew I would be upgrading some components. They had base clock at 103.0 and a multiplier of 41 on all cores (so I was at 4.2 GHz). I ran prime95 small fft for around 8 hours and the highest temperature I received was around 78 C with no errors. The voltage was around 1-1.1V. I was pretty happy about this and was excited for what I would be able to achieve after the upgrades. I just switched out my 7850 for a r9 270x and my h60 for an h80i. I used the same overclocking settings to see how my new setup fared and was very disappointed. As soon as I started the prime95 test the temperature rose quickly to over 100 C. I immediately turned the test off. I then restored all the settings to the cpu defaults and tried the test again. I am now getting a max temp of 82 C but at a much lower speed of 3.6GHz. Voltage is at 1.016 V. Can anyone please tell me what is going on?

Maybe the new h80i is not seated properly. If you can take it off and reapply thermal paste and see if the temps drop back down.

The temps with the h80i should be better than the h60. If it doesn't work I would try to go RMA the h80i as it's not performing properly.

I made sure everything was plugged in and working and then unscrewed and rescrewed the pump back into place and tested it again. There was no difference. I decided it must be defective and am going to get a replacement. I plugged in the stock cpu fan just until the replacement can come in and tested the temp again. The stock fan is running 5 C colder than the h80i. It must have been seriously messed up.

Yeah, hopefully the replacement works fine. The h80i is supposed to be a great cooler.

PSU is cooler master silent pro hybrid 850W 80+ gold. The only component I changed other than the cooler was the gpu. Like I said, the stock fan I just put in is getting better temperatures than the corsair h80i did. I don't know what the problem could be other than having a defective product.

It is most likely defective, I mean it doesn't do it's job.
