Overclocking Gigabyte 7850

On stock voltage the maximum overclock I could get was 1050mhz core and 1300mhz mem.

I increased the voltage to 1.225v. I got 1120mhz core and 1300mhz mem. From there I then decreased the voltage to about 1.180v.

I think I can actually get more out of this card but that means running the card 24/7 at 1.225v, I'm not sure how much that would affect the card over my 1.18v.

Anything under 1.225v caused crashes when I went over 1120mhz core. Do you think it is worth the heat and possible degradation of the card to keep to at 1.225v to gain the higher overclocks?

What is your overclocking results?

I can do 1200/1500 with 1.225v, which is plenty safe. I run it that hard for the more demanding games. My Twin Frozr III cooler keeps it under 60C even with the massive overclock. I wish they let you go to 1.3v like on my HD 6850.

So you think it's worth such a high overvolt to achieve higher clocks?

Nice overclock by the way. Also I believe you can go to 1.3v wish a custom bios, But I am not game enough to go over 1.225v.

I'm not shy about pushing the envelope.

There is an unlocked version of Afterburner that can actually tear up stuff pretty quick if you aren't using LN2. You have to get it from an MSI rep and they make you sign a waiver, which I find amusing if you aren't even going to use it on an MSI card.

So would you say 1.225v causes nearly no damage?

Ill make sure not to use that version of after burner, Also at 1.225v I cannot reach near 1200mhz on the core. Maybe 1150 from my 1120 but it's not worth the increase. The gigabyte version seems to not be a great overclocker :(

Check ASIC quality with GPU-Z. Mine is over 80%.
