Hi,

I have an ASUS P8Z77-V Deluxe motherboard with:

1 x Samsung EVO 840 1 TB SSD
1 x Samsung 830 256 GB SSD
1 x Hitachi SATA 6GB/s 4TB HD

I plan to connect the two SSD’s to the Intel Grey SATA 6 ports and the Hitachi to the Marvell Navy Blue SATA 6 port.

I plan to use the EVO 840 for Windows 7, programs and data , and the 830 for programs and regularly used data including Flight Sim. I plan to use the the HD for infrequently used data and backup.

Will this port selection give the best speeds?

What would be the pluses and minuses of dedicating 64 GB of the 830 to cache the HD using ASUS SSD caching?

Cheers
Ian

Thank you for your reply.

There are two Intel SATA 6 ports, four Intel SATA 3 ports and 2 Marvell SATA 6 ports. Would you connect the "SATA 6" HD to the Intel SATA3 ports or the Marvell SATA 6 ports? I have read that the "SATA 6" of the HD might be marketing hype, and I might get similar performance or maybe even better with the Intel SATA 3 ports than the Marvell?

I guess I could try each. What is the best (preferably free) test software to check the speed of the (HD and SSD) on each port?

Cheers
Ian
