I have an older x58 board and some time ago decided to pick up an 128GB Samsung 840 Pro because I wanted the warranty on it even though I was aware of the sata II limitation. I also have an additional storage raid1 (made up of 2 hdd's) setup in my bios (ICH chipset) so I needed to select "configure sata as RAID" in the bios...apparently Samsung Magician doesn't recognize the sata interface in this mode and still says that "AHCI mode is required for best performance." The SSD is not apart of the raid, it's just the OS drive. I've tried setting setting the sata mode in AHCI with my current setup before and Win7 instantly bsod's during bootup.
Here are my other settings in Magician:
With all of this, I'm getting 180MB/s seq read and 176MB/s seq write with 20,000-30,000 IOPS. I already wrote about 3TB before enabling over-provisioning. Is this the best I can get with my setup? Should I dismantle the raid1 and set sata back to AHCI for significant performance gains?
Here are my other settings in Magician:
latest firmware
hibernation mode disabled (to save space and not needed)
virtual memory set to 2GB (I have 6GB of ram, DDR3-1600, tested with memtest86+)
indexing search enabled
prefetch disabled
write cache buffer enabled
write cache buffer flushing enabled
system restore disabled
over provisioning at 10% (12GB)
rapid mode enabled
