AMD Vishera FX 8320
ASRock960GC-GS FX
8GB ddr3 (2 sticks)
2x1TB HDDs
4x120 case fans
dvd optical drive
Sapphire Radeon 7950 boost

Will a good 500w psu be enough to power this?

Will overclock the gpu a bit but not the cpu.

Just to be safe you may want to upgrade the power supply so you can upgrade and overclock in the future if you want

this is my 2nd/back up rig, that PSU was a leftover from the first rig. I wanted to know if it is safe with little to no overclocking.

On the 12v rail:

AMD Vishera FX 8320 - 125w
ASRock960GC-GS FX - mostly uses +5v and +3v rail
8GB ddr3 (2 sticks) - 6w
2x1TB HDDs - 14w
4x120 case fans - 10w
dvd optical drive - 20w when in use, 5w idle
Sapphire Radeon 7950 boost - 225w

That's 391w, or 33 amps. A high quality PSU with 40a on the 12v rail would be just enough to power this rig.
