Hey guys I'm building a new pc using the Asus Poseidon GTX 780 (3GB).
I also have a old GTX 640 (only 1 GB) that isn't being used. I was wondering if it would be any good putting it with my GTX 780, I don't know what it will do so if someone could tell me if it would be good or bad and if it is recommended or not .

Off topic just another thing is will my Poseidon be better than an Asus r9 290x ( this is one GPU I was thinking of getting )
Thx guys

A GT 640 can play as a dedicated PhysX card, however, because it is rather weak, it doesn't perform a decent task in it. Your GTX 780 will do a better job on its own. So it's not worth it. It is possible that the GT 640 will end up slowing down your GTX 780 instead.

As for performance between a GTX 780 and a R9 290X, they're about the same. The R9 290X is every-so-slightly faster by like 1%, which is only noticeable through benchmarks.

Oh ok that's really useful, I'm thinking of actually using the 780 in SLI or using the 290x in crossfire. So i think I'll go for the 290x crossfire is that a better choice?

In my opinion yes. I have 280x Crossfire and im very happy with them. The thing is that multi-gpu is a pain in the ass, as some games are not Multi-GPU optimized and staff like that. But in general, if you are choosing between 290x vs 780, go for the 290x...
