Hey guys,

I've been looking up the power consumption of the R9 290 Vapour-X and many places show it using just over 300w and others say 400w, which one is it? I won't be overclocking this card at first (might do when the warranty runs out). I have a corsair CX600M power supply and an amd fx-6200, will that power supply be enough?

Thanks, George.

well at idle 290 power consumption is about 114watts and at full load its 418 watts 600 watt should be fine but it will be tight as you are going to overclock so 700 watt will be perfect it will give u enough headroom for other parts of your system...http://www.bit-tech.net/hardware/graphics/2013/11/05/amd-radeon-r9-290-review/9

I find that "bottleneck" is a very much over used word, my 6200 shouldn't bottleneck it, maybe the tiniest bit, but for the mean time i'll still notice performance increases over my 7850, since I've never seen my CPU go higher than 50% :)

you shall oc your cpu if possible as it willbottleneck the card. Now with the PSU that you have the card should run just fine, but close to the PSU limits. So if you have more than 2 HDDs on the pc you shall upgrade your PSU. it is a pity though to have such a powerful card among with fx-6200

Your power supply is enough but CXM power supplies are the best quality either.
The card actual power draw by itself varies 240-300W depending if you overclocked your gpu and how much.
Thoses who said higher were talking about total power consumption for a system which includes cpu.

Alright, so I guess since the card is factory over clocked I should expect a bit over 300w, maybe 350w?

As for my cpu I don't have the money to upgrade the cpu and motherboard as well so I'm going to have to stick to them for now. I would prefer to get the r9 290 since it'll still give me much better performance.

factory OCs tend to be rather minor and dont increase the power usage much, maybe 20W tops and furmark usage might not change at all since it is likely limited by the board power target/limit anyways. Some uber versions do have improved and beefier voltage regulator circuitry and stuff to raise the power limits, those cards can have way higher max power consumption under extreme loads. Like the Lightning version of 290X: 386W in furmark
