Hey guys. I need some help. I recently built a new system and every game I play on it will constantly make my cmputer hard freeze. It doesnt matter what game it is. The only one that hasnt done this is Planetside 2. It ran very well. Im running two EVGA Geforce 780's in SLI mode and I believe that maybe my problem lays there but Im not sure. If anyone can help me out I would forever be in your debt because Ive worked on this for a week and cant iron out the bugs. I have all the latest drivers for my video cards and everything else. Here are my specs:

Intel Core i7 4790K
2X EVGA Geforce 780 3GB GDDR5 Superclocked
Asus Maximus VI Formula ROG version with Cross Chill
G.SKILL Sniper Gaming Series 16GB (4 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 2133
Seagate Barracuda 7200 3TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard
Pioneer Blue Ray/DVD Burner
Windows Home Premium Edition 64bit
EVGA Supernova 1000 G2 Power Supply.

Well, it is definitely a thing that some games are more prone to crashing than others. I played lots of games for about a year until I played Far Cry 3, which constantly crashed. It was my GPU overclock, even though no other games seemed bothered. So yeah, it's totally possible that some games have more issues than others. Then again, if your GPU can stand the OCCT test for an hour, it's probably not overheating :p

I think OCCT shows you a current and a highest temperature btw, you should be able to see the max temp reached in there.Or just dont run the burn test fullscreen so you can see the temps during the test.

But I really think you should start with J0nda's tip. Remove all components that are not 100% necessary (that includes...

I'm guessing you tried running a single card as well? Do you have the same issues then?

My first instinct says drivers, overheating(which is all the more likely in SLI), PSU (although yours is a very good one). It doesnt have to be your video card either, it can be an audio card issue as well, make sure all drivers are updated.

I dont think over heating is the problem, though I could be wrong. I have everything installed in a CM Stryker case and it has 2x120mm fans in the front blowing back inside the case, another 120mm fan in the back of the case pulling air outwards of the casee and a huge 200mm fan in top pulling air outwards. I also have the side panel still opened up so it should be getting plenty of cool air and nothing is really that warm inside the case. The cards are never hot to the touch and are rather cool. It will run Windows all day long and not crash the first time but start a game and it will hard freeze with in just a few minutes. Is this an overheating problem? If so how do I remedy that? I have a Kraken Watercooling kit that I havent installed yet but thats only on the CPU. I have all my drivers updated from video to sound and everything. Ive tried everything.

Well, your airflow definitely seems to be in order, can you check the temperatures of your GPU core using OCCT or something similar? It might be bad transmission of heat to the heatsink because of an unfortunate job with the cooling paste. In that case the heatsink would be cool, but the card would be hot.

Locking up while installing games however seems to indicate a harddisk or memory issue. Try running memtest and run a chkdsk on your harddrives.

Lastly it could be a PSU thing. I still recommend running your system with only 1 videocard and see how it performs then.

Honestly, what we're doing here is trying to rule some things out. As you can see, there could be a lot of things wrong currently, and we need to narrow it down.

Try to take apart your build and assemble it one part at a time.. just start with your cpu and one ram stick. Then add a video card, then add all the other ram sticks one at a time.. then go on.. redo all the actions that froze your pc and see if it helps..

My first video card runs at about 50 degrees celsius and the second runs at about 40 degrees. Ive tried the games with one video card and it still sometimes freezes but not as often. If this turns out to be a CPU issue I have a Kraken water cooler on hand that I can put on.

Thats after running the test for an hour that comes with that OCCT software and also from the software that EVGA has called EVGA Precision X. At least thats what I gathered from it. I can post screenshots if needed. I ran the software test then exited and checked it. Is there anyway that I can check it while running a game or something where iits under a good load?

Im starting to think its just certain games that Im playing that does this. Arma 3 will freeze almost every single time. Sometimes it will play for a few minutes and sometimes just seconds after starting it freezes. Thats both with SLi and without. I am using the SLi bridge that came with my Motherboard and am wondering if maybe that could be an issue. Does that really make a difference?

Remove all components that are not 100% necessary (that includes wifi-cards, soundcards, all RAM sticks but one, one of the video cards), run Arma, see if your PC crashes. Change one of the video cards for the other, test again. If it doesnt crash anymore, slowly add components until it does. Hopefully this will help us find the part that has issues.

I think you guys are right and Ive already started even this late at night. It bugs the hell out of me when something is broken and I cant find out what it is. LOL. OCD I guess. LOL. I just took out the sound card and gonna try that instead of these monitoring programs Ive downloaded and fooled with all morning. I got a nice suprise a minute ago. When I was booting up the system stopped like the bios was coming up or something and there was an error stating my CPU fan wasnt functioning and warned of CPU over heating. I looked and it was running fine and nothing seemed to be exceedinly hot or anything. I had to reboot and re set a fan option I turned earlier but that had nothing to do with whats going on. Im going to go ahead and install the NZXT Kraken X61 that I didnt put on when I built it. I looked at it and thought it was a little over my head until I read up on it. The instructions arent that clear either. Just a few pictures thats SUPPOSED to show how but really doesnt. Anyways I will keep you guys updated on my problem and hopefully your suggestions will solve it. Thanks for helping me and sticking with my cpu ignorance for so long. LOL

Haha no worries man, I just hope you get to fix your problem. Nothing worse than dropping so much money on a new nice system and it not working the way it's supposed to :). Can you keep us updated on your progress? I'm still really curious as to what the problem is, and knowing the answer may help me fix other people's issues in the future.
