My motherboard's (H-CUPERTINO2-H61-uA TX) website mentions that it can be upgraded with the following socket LGA 1155 CPUs (TDP: 35W up to 95W):

Core i3-2xxx/T dual core
Core i3-2xxx dual core
Core i5-2xxx quad core
Core i7-2xxx quad core
Core G6xx/T dual core

As long as they are socket LGA 1155, why can't I use an "i5-3xxx" or "Xeon" instead? Why are "Xeon" CPUs not even listed?

RE: matiascasado86 as zichus said the socket type is the same.. but as far as I know the H61 need a BIOS update to be compatible with the 3rd Gen core I series and neither HP nor foxconn mention anything concerning your computer compatibility with ivy bridge. You should contact HP support team for more info before you upgrade the cpu.

The i5 3xxx or Xeon will fit the LGA 1155 however it depends on the mobo manufacturer if it has an BIOS updated to recognize newer versions of the processor. I would search for bios updates if the mobo has them or try to contact Intel support.

Hello matiascasado86, try to see if there's any available bios update for your HP computer from hp support website.

is your pc a HP Pavilion Slimline s5??

as far as I know hp/foxconn has not released any new bios which make the board compatible with 3 gen core I series... I may be wrong here, I recommend you to contact hp support for more info, as I don't know which rev of H61 chipset you have.

Hello Nirmalr7, I have the HP Pavilion p6-2002es.

HP website BIOS update does not mention any Ivy Bridge update:

BIOS Released: 2012-08-14
Version: 7.16 Rev. A

- Resolves issue with system hang during POST when a touch screen monitor is connected.
- Resolves issue with F12 hotkey malfunction after loading BIOS defaults via any method.
