Shortly after marking a recent post of mine (here: http://www.tomshardware.com/answers/id-2216059/asus-780-100c-vrm-temp-load-good-guru3d.html) as solved, something unexpected came up and I'm compelled to carry on here rather than continuing a solved post.
As I mentioned in that post, I was gonna go with the $740 GB 780 Ti. Now other very tempting options have raised their ugly heads, i.e., $640 (used) Sapphire R9 290X Tri-X OC and $620 HIS R9 290X IceQ X2.
Questions:
1. If I go with 290X, will I miss PhysX completely, or running through the CPU (for e.g. i7 3770) will yield the same results equivalent to a GPU? I love PhysX no matter how small the number of supporting games is, especially the games I played on PS3 without PhysX (like Mirror's edge) seem completely different games with it. I must replay them with PhysX so I need to know if there's a possibility to enable it with Radeons.
2. Corsair TX750 should be suffice its power needs, but does 290X (even non-ref) run so abnormally hot that I'll need a waterblock?
3. Other than PhysX, Adaptive VSync, Shadow-Play, HBAO(+), Experience and other miscellaneous Nvidia exclusives (if any), are there any other drawbacks related to preferring 290X over 780 Ti?
4. Should a used Sapphire still be considered superior to brand new Gigabyte and Asus (290X) variants?
EDIT:
5. Is "HIS R9 290X IceQ X2"a bad option?
Thanks very much.
