Intro: Hi, everybody! It appears today that something hosed my primary Linux install.

Events leading up to this issue: I was going to convert my primary HDD from MBR to GPT. The reason: I was going to install Windows 7 beside Linux, but the HDD was in a UEFI system, and the HDD had the MBR partitioning scheme. I had to convert the HDD to the GPT partitioning scheme to install Windows. I used gdisk to convert the disk to GPT.

The problem: Now, Linux will not boot. The computer just resets and I wind up back in the BIOS. When I attempt to access the /home/******* directory, all of the folders are GONE and the only 2 files are Access-Your-Private-Data.desktop and README.txt, both of which are broken and cannot be opened. The Windows 7 installer cannot locate or create any more partitions on the drive. All files are present in the /boot directory and the /boot/grub directory (as far as I know).

Other Info: I don't know if this was a virus or a human error or what!

Yes if you are using UEFI and not the BIOS-legacy mode. The "boot-repair" tool can do this for you.

Be sure you have created the EFI partiton before hand...
