I was getting ready to purchase the new Asus Z97 WS motherboard but when I went to Amazon I found this post, the only rating thus far and would like your guy's take on his review:

http://www.amazon.com/Z97-WS-DisplayPort-server-grade-Workstation-Quad-strength/product-reviews/B00KBCO3XM/

I have never purchased a motherboard from Asus but would like to know if anyone has had any recent experiences with them. Thanks.

I've used quite a few ASUS boards over the years, but can't comment on the customer service because I've never had one of them fail. I have had several other motherboards from other manufacturers fail, but have never had trouble getting them replaced. Most motherboards that fail are going to fail in the first few days, and I've usually just dealt with the reseller when that has happened. You can usually get a replacement mailed to you within 2-3 days if you work with a reputable reseller. Regardless, I'd buy an ASUS board without any thought to the quality of the product or the service.

However, if you are going to be building a server or some computer that needs to be up 24x7 for a mission-critical role (as the poster in the Amazon review implies), you shouldn't be building a machine at all. If you need server-level reliability and support, you have to pay for it. When we have a server failure at the company where I work, we've got a technician on site with replacement parts within 4 hours of the reported failure, regardless of time of day. That costs money, and don't expect any desktop motherboard manufacturer to reach that service level.

Thanks for the information. Asus has been around a long time in computer years and I know they are heavy into motherboards. I am not going to let one person's review change what I had already planned on purchasing. This is a newer board and as such, it probably hasn't had enough time for others to review it. I am of the opinion that Asus is not going to stake their reputation on a work station quality motherboard unless they are ready to stand behind it. I'm guessing that this was an isolated incident.
