I'm looking for a large display for a more immersive pc gaming experience. I know that monitors are always more crisp and generally make better pc displays than tvs, but I have neither the money nor video card powerful enough for a high res monitor. Also I'm going to college so it would be great to have a larger display for watching movies or local multiplayer on the wii u.

Currently I am trying to decide between a 32 inch tv and its larger 40 inch version. I will be sitting with my face slightly more than 2 feet away from the screen. I have a couple of questions. Do you think a 40 inch is too large for that distance? I don't really have a tv with which to test how comfortable i would be gaming 2 feet away from a 40 inch screen. Also, would the 40 inch display be noticeably fuzzier and less detailed than the 32 inch screen?

Yes, but like I said, my video card doesnt have the juice for anything above 1080p. Also I've been playing on a 27 inch 1080p monitor, but my dog knocked it off my desk last night ): I think that overall, a 24 inch would feel like a sort of downgrade for me.

Also the tvs im looking at both come with IPS panels.

1920x1200 versus 1920x1080 is a negligible difference. If you have no trouble at 1080p, 1200 is not going to be noticeably worse.

1080p @ 24" has higher pixel density than 1080p @ 27". Even better if its 1920x1200 @ 24". Some might call that an upgrade. ;)

Honestly at two feet away from the display, I don't think 32" or 40" televisions are going to be physically comfortable to look at or particularly attractive.

if you can run 1080p then you run 1200p. Its almost no different. Maybe 1 to 3 fps loss for a better quality screen. 32 and 40 inch from 2 feet away is going to look like garbage. An IPS display looks way better then a regular LCD TV. you need a 1440p or 1600p if you are going bigger then 24 inches or it will look awful from that close. 1920x1200 IPS is the way to go. The ASUS pa248qe or DELL 2412m are the best on the market for IPS.
