Hi.
For about 20 days i've been experiencing random lag spikes/time outs in-game.
All i can tell you is that its not my ISP (or that's what they're saying) not my computer(i ran the ping command on 3 different computers) and not my router(pinged the router).

this happens randomly every 1-60 seconds.
btw the time out can happen alone.

What is this site you put the ping in for. That site traces into iran which has massive government restriction on internet. It very well could be there is a common connection that is overloaded going into the country because of their firewalls.

Why don't you call them up and tell them to turn them off because it is causing you trouble :)

Lets assume your ISP is telling the truth and they have no issue to your house and they have no issue to any of their partner ISP. If the problem is in another ISP network or is because of governments there is not alot you are going to do about it.

You can run traceroute and then run continuous pings to each hop in the trace. You should see the issue and it should continue in all hops past that point. Still unless the device causing the issue is in your house or under the control of your ISP what can you do about it. It very well could be in your ISP but if they have any brains they will have already done this type of test....and if not then you get the privilege of educating them as to why it really IS their problem. Until you get to a very senior tech they will likely have no clue.

Then whatever hop in the trace it starts at is the problem. If it is the second it is the connection between your house and the ISP. If it is the third one or farther then it is someplace in the network and you will have to dig to see who owns the ip address

It could be a problem with the router but it is more likely some strange issue with the PC. If you have another device you could see if it too has issues which would then show if it was the router or the PC.

You could scan the PC for malware and maybe you get lucky. The resource monitor may tell you if there is something else strange going on in the machine. Unfortunately it can be lots of things anything from video settings to hung programs.
