Hey guys,

About to do a new build and I will have a Nvidia GTX 780 I will have a monior hat supports both DVI and HDMI.

Now I'd like to play some games 100hz (I do have a 144 hz monitor) uing DVI and some games uing HDMI (60hz).

Is there a way to achieve this without having to do frequent unplugs etc?

Thank you

Solution
No, DVI and HDMI will both look equally good. The only difference is that DVI supports higher refresh rates (when compared to the widely used version of HDMI, HDMI 1.4b and 2.0 fix this), and HDMI carries some extra data like sound, Ethernet etc.

HDMI will look a lot better over the DVI connection no? I ask because i'll want to play single player game likes watch dogs etc on hdmi (so it looks awesome) and fps games BF/CSGO on 100hz (DVI) because im a mega nerd and want all the fps.

For the most part HDMI and DVI look 100% the same.

HDMI took DVI and added digital audio along with a more consumer friendly connector. HDMI's single link limited it to 1920 x 1080(technically 1920 x 1200) when first released.

Now over the years HDMI has increased the clock speed to get more data across its single link(DVI can use upto 2 links for this purpose).

You will find lots of backwards compatibility from HDMI to DVI as well(since they use the same signalling).

So short answer for the most part HDMI is DVI + audio on computer monitors(and most TV's).

Now if you want one screen on at a time, you may be able to use the built in Windows feature accessible by pressing Start + P to swap displays. This is normally for a projector, but if it works it will swap from the DVI screen to the HDMI screen and back(computer only or projector only). Extend would allow both screens to be used together.

You can do all this in your video cards control panel(AMD used to and still may have a hotkey option from its own control panel, but I have not seen it on the green side), but if the built in feature works, it is faster.
