The Pentium G3258 supports DDR1333, but the MSI PC Mate supports up to DDR1600(non overclocked). Trying to decide which ram will perform better when the CPU is overclocked, keeping in mind future upgrades. In other words I don't want the DDR3 1333 to limit me if I upgrade my CPU or GPU in a few years. I'm new at this so I hope this makes sense. Oh, and I'm looking at getting 2x4GB for now.

My build(so far):
Motherboard: MSI Z97 PC Mate
CPU: Pentium G3258
PSU: Antec 620M
GPU: GeForce GTX 750ti
Cooler: Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO
Hard Drive: Seagate 500GB

Neither one will limit you for gaming. 1600 is almost always about the same price so normally i would say just get that.

Thank you for the fast response. I was wondering why the CPU is calling for DDR3 1333 specifically if I can use DDR3 1600 with no problems?

Thats because the mobo is capable of supporting those speeds but the CPU still determines the actual speed of the RAM because that is where the memory controller is.

Also all RAM has a set of profiles coded into it that lets it run at any supported speed at or below what it is rated at. So if the CPU won't run it at 1600 it'll fall back to the supported speed such as 1333. Basically 1600 says that RAM is guaranteed to be able to preform at that speed so long as the mobo and CPU support it.

Thank you for the clear explanation. I'm definitely going with the DDR3 1600 in case of cpu upgrade in the future. Thanks again!
