When I go to:
Device Manager > Display Adapters
..the default driver being used is called 'Intel G33/G31 Express Chipset Family (Microsoft Corporation - WDDM 1.0)'

When I try to run certain software/games (i.e Sony Vegas; Minecraft) with this driver version, I get errors.

So I follow these steps:
Right-click driver > Click 'Update Driver Software' > Browse my computer for driver software > Let me pick from a list...

3 options are then displayed for me...
1. Intel(R) G33/G31 Express Chipset Family
2. Intel(R) G33/G31 Express Chipset Family (Microsoft Corporation - WDDM 1.0)
3. Microsoft Basic Display Adapter

When I choose to update the driver to the 1st option, I can run minecraft & sony vegas without any problems. But every time I turn off/on my PC, the driver switches back to the 2nd option, which produces errors when running these programs/games.

Its also pretty annoying in that when I update my driver, I often have to restart PC for the changes to take effect.

Is there a way to make the 1st option the default display adapter driver, so that I don't have to constantly be switching?

Download the graphics driver for you computer model from the computer manufactures website and install it.
Then use Device Manager to uninstall any others that are listed with the new one.

Thanks for your answer. I've already gone to the intel website and downloaded/installed the driver corresponding to my integrated graphics chip.

How can I uninstall the bad driver? I tried using Device Manager to uninstall it while it was active, but the screen goes back to a lower resolution and the 'display adapter' dropdown menu in Device Manager disappears as well. I assume this means the very basic driver is being used, and no others are available.

Edit: Not sure if this helps, but when I was installing the driver from the intel website, it gave me a warning that I was installing an older version of the one that was already on my PC. Is it possible that I already had the correct driver installed, but that it wasn't being used? Because I only figured out how to choose from a list of drivers after I had already installed this 'older driver.'
