I get the message failed to initialize render when trying to play skyrim

After I finished building my new computer and downloading all the software I tried to play skyrim. First it said it's recommended would be on low, but then I kept getting the message failed to initialize renderer. This is odd considering my build was supposed play almost every game on ultra. Any help would be appreciated.

if its a new build make sure you have all direct x files and updated drivers for all. also you could be missing a redistribute or two.

also make sure you use windows update to keep all that up-to-date.
