Greetings!
Long and short of it, my comp died on me after 8 years of loyal service. (C2D E6600 2.4GHZ + ASUS P5B Delux + NVIDIA 7600GT > later upgraded to 8600GT) Was great in 2006, not so much in 2014.
Need to pick up something new, but I'm on a budget.
Budget: $220-250 (Approximately in Indian Rupees 13000-15000)
Components required: Cpu + Motherboard + RAM (I have a 400W PSU and a Coolermaster cabinet. I'm also rocking my old 19" monitor. I may or may not upgrade depending on savings / budget. I've been wanting to rock a dual monitor setup for a while now, might just do that.) Also, ideally I'd like to avoid buying a graphics card. Something with an onboard setup that'll rock at least 1600xwhatever res ; preferably 1900x1080 or 1900x1200 and above and run movies in HD and allow for optimum gfx acceleration with Chrome / Photoshop / etc... I can always pick up a GFX card later and help boost performance if required, down the line.
Approximate purchase date: Around 22nd - 25th of July (New credit cycle and our govt's new financial budget should hit markets making things a tad cheaper.)
Need / Requirement: I'm going to primarily use it to browse the web, watch videos / films in HD, use Photoshop (a fair bit) / Illustrator and some amateur video editing. (Nothing fancy, just stitching together stuff with my kids doing things...) I used to be a hardcore gamer but it's been a while since I've played anything and I doubt I'll ever want to run anything fancy on full graphics ever again. So pro graphics are not a high requirement, but I wouldn't want to run something ancient either.
I'd also ideally like to have a motherboard with decent sound, USB3 and some newer creature comforts. (Something that is at least 2013, if not newer)
Manufacturer preference: None really. Anything's cool as long as it's good and won't kill my budget. I know AMD provides more bang for the buck, but I've also heard of other drawbacks.
Current combo options:
1) CPU: AMD FX 6300+ 3.9GHZ
Motherboard: ASUS M5A88
+ 4GB DDR 3 RAM
Thoughts on combo: Provides a fair bit of power but the Graphics are the equivalent of a Radeon 4250. (That's like 2009!) Also I'm not sure if the Mobo supports USB 3.
2) CPU: APU A8-6600K 3.9GHZ (If I'm not mistaken) +
Motherboard: GA-F2A55M
+ 4GB DDR 3 RAM
Thoughts on combo: Not as powerful as the FX 6300, but should ideally make up for in the graphics dept with the 8570HD. But I didn't see USB 3 on the Motherboard again. Nor am I sure if it's worth giving up on the computing power for the graphics. But 8570 HD > 4250 by a mile.
3) CPU: Core i5 4440
Motherboard: No idea what I'd go with here
+ 4GB DDR3 RAM
Thoughts on combo: Significantly more powerful than the previous 2, but also more expensive (In India, last I checked it was almost $100 more expensive (there or there abotus)) And I have no idea what motherboard to go with.
----
I'm completely open to any kind of suggestions or thoughts on my current build. Just want to ensure I get an all-round system that is not low on power nor something that will seem absolutely out of breath while trying to do any photo editing or HD viewing, etc... I was really used to the comforts of my Asus P5B deluxe. Great audio, wifi, etc etc...
It has also been ages since I've bothered to keep up with any new hardware. Cursory updates in my reader, but nothing major. So while I have a general idea of what the latest stuff is, I'm not able to make an educated choice on what will work best for me at this point given my budget and requirements.
Any help would be most appreciated.
