Thing is today, while the mobo does play into things, the biggie in what will work with higher freq DRAM is the CPU, used to be the mobo (years ago) as the MC (memory controller) was a chipset on the mobo, for the last 4-5 years the MC is in the CPU, so while the mobo plays in, it's more CPU dependent on what freqs of DRAM you can run
