New Build not booting via HDMI

Hi I am new to building and I am 99% sure that everything is connected correctly internally within the build. My question is that on first boot do I need to boot from the DVI slot on my monitor or HDMI slot on my monitor? I tried the HDMI and my monitor keeps stating that there is no connection.

It should not matter what interface you use. Are you using a discreet GPU? If so, please double check that the HDMI/DVI connector is plugged into the GPU and not the motherboard's outputs as a dedicated graphics card will disable the on board graphics. I've done this once or twice myself.
