I purchased my 27" iMac mid-2012 and it came pre-installed with the OS "Lion".

As this was around the time "Mountain Lion" was released I soon upgraded to that OS using my Apple ID.

My issue is that when I wipe my HDD and then select to reinstall the OS, it automatically wants to install Mountain Lion and nothing else and will not install unless I enter my Apple ID credentials.

If I do enter my Apple ID credentials, everything is back to factory (except it now runs Mountain Lion) but my issue is that I do not wish for my Apple ID and purchases to be handed over to the new buyer of the machine.

Once the machine is set up is there a way to remove my Apple ID from the system so that it is no longer associated with it?

Any advice greatly appreciated.

I believe this is agasint the rules. Your best bet is to go ask the apple store. :)

Why on earth would a sensible security precaution like this be against forum rules? Everyone should remove personal information from a computer before disposing of it.

The first part of this link tells you how to remove the Apple ID from your computer: http://www.macworld.co.uk/how-to/mac/how-remove-your-ap...
