Hello, I'm a gamer. I generally play games competitively, but want a machine that can run modern games at high settings/fps. Which is why I'm upgrading my GPU, but I'm concerned my machine will bottleneck, which is why I seek professional opinion xD.

My current rig:

MOBO: Asus AMD m5a97le

RAM: 8GB Kingston (2x 4GB sticks, not HyperX or anything special, just standard I assume)

PSU: LSP ULTRA 650W (Assuming I should upgrade)

GPU: AMD Radeon HD7770 @ Stock

CPU: AMD FX-6100 @ Stock (Is an Intel i5 chip truly superior or if this is a bottleneck can I simply upgrade to an FX-8350 BE?)

HDD: Some generic WD Blue 500GB HDD (I've been looking at large SSDs to run everything on, as I generally don't need over 500GB of space this is a viable option I assume)

I currently have no disc drive.

I'm planning on purchasing a GTX 770 w/4GB VRam, assuming it's even compatible. My budget to remove bottlenecks and get the rest of my machine up to par will be around 500-800USD..

One more question, can I use both my HD7770 and future GTX770 together, for even more performance? I have 2 PCI Express ports, I assume it might be possible.

Thanks in advance,.

Casey

There'd be no benefit to using the HD 7770 in the 2nd slot unless you wanted to use it for a 2nd monitor that displayed the desktop and such. Your MB's 2nd PCIe X16 slot is only X4 lanes bandwidth, so it would not be suitable for a 2nd card in SLI (or CF).

Definitely upgrade your PSU. The Ultra LSP falls in the "Not Recommended" category: https://community.newegg.com/eggxpert/computer_hardware...
Here are some recommended 600W to 660W PSUs for your consideration: http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=E...

Unless you want to spend the extra money to upgrade to a whole new Intel platform, the FX-8350 would be the recommended way to go for that MB... as long as you have, or update your BIOS to, ver. 1006 or later. http://www.asus.com/Motherboards/M5A97_LE_R20/HelpDesk_... (and get that new PSU)

The WD Blue HDD is not some generic drive. It is one of the staples of the industry. But yes, a SSD would be an improvement on load times. But it would not help in gaming, though. If you decide to upgrade to a SSD, let me know. I will point you to some performance tweaks for the drive. And I can give you pointers for cloning the HDD to the new SSD. I have this SSD in my PC along with a HDD for general storage. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...

you would not bottleneck if you added a GTX 770 and used your FX-6100 but i'm with Clutchc on this you need to upgrade your PSU and the FX-8350 is really good for gaming
