Same speed on wired and wireless, way less than what I've paid for.

Hello Toms hardware.
I just registered today, and I'm not good with computers - So if you could answer it in a.. ''noob friendly'' way, that would be awesome.

Anyway,
My connection is supposed to be a 90/90 connection. That is on wired of course.
I tested my wifi today, which was 18/19. Again, it was on my wifi, so I know it should be lower than the 90/90.
I went on my other computer and tested the wired connection (It does not have a wireless card, since it's a gaming computer and there's no need), and I got the same speed, 18/19.
I know for a fact that it has not always been like this, and that I've been getting the 90/90 on my wired, so it started recently.

I tried all the basic stuff, but again, I'm really not good with computers or anything, so there might be something I've missed or something that I just don't know about.

I already checked the internet providers status, and there seem to be no problem.

Love Cuddleh.

HI, a few questions first.

What method of checking the speed are you using? speedtest.net?

do you know what kind of connection you bought from your provider? cable/fiber broadband etc?

do you have an all in one wireless router, or do you have a modem as well.

do you know how to access the management page of the devices?

I used this speedtest as it's from my interner provider, http://speedtest.waoo.dk/ and I also used http://www.speedtest.net/

I am pretty sure we have Fiber..

I am not sure about this, I think we MIGHT have a modem, agian, it's not my area of expertise

No, I have no idea how to do this, haha.

there shouldntr be any major drops in speed because you go from wired to wireless. you may get slight variation in signal strength as you move around your home but weaker signal doesnt translate into slower line seeds. it just increases slightly the latency.
as you have run speed test and your results are not what you expect get on to your isp and ask them whats up.

Right. err basically, i dont want to get in to wireless because depending on what kind of wireless you have the speed may be a lot lower than your internet connection, so for the purpose of all testing/communicating with your ISP stick to being connected by a cable.

Ultimately it might be a good idea to contact your ISP and see what they say.
We could help you find out some more and do tests but it might be a bit tricky.

I live in the UK and have fiber broadband, if yours is like mine you probably have a modem and a router.
Your router is the box which has the wifi aerials etc in, it will have a port on the back marked WAN. there will be a cable from this which will either go straight in to a socket on the wall meaning you just have a router, or it will go via an ethernet cable to another box with lights etc on before going in to the wall. (this is a modem).

if you know the ip address of these devices you can put it in your web browser and access a web management page which will tell you information about your connection (such as the speed). If you ring your ISP they will probably tell you this from their end anyway.
