I recently just bought a new Kingston SSDnow V300 and I was trying to do a clean install of windows 8 on it but each time it would restart to finish the installation process it said "disk read error"

I have a Gigabyte GA-H67MA-UD2H-B3

I've read around that I may need to change some things in my bios to get my mobo to recognize the drive. Someone also told me to enable RAID but I'm unsure what is the safest option.

Thank You

No, you don't have to enable raid in the bios, because you only have one drive. and it takes at least two drive to take advantage of raid features. Can you try to install a known good drive and see if you still get the error. if the installation completes with error, then it means there are something wrong with your SSD. if you are still getting the error, then the problem lies somewhere else. But it is worth a try.
Let me know how it goes.

Hello, I'm Jewel with Kingston Technical Support and would like to offer our assistance. Form what I read, it sounds like you are able to see the V300 and get the installation started so the issue would not be with the AHCI drivers. The problem sounds like it is not detecting the V300 as a boot device, make sure the drive is listed first or second only to the DVD/CD in the boot priority and the SSD is plugged into the SATA3_0 port (I've seen some boards that don't like to boot to a HDD/SSD unless it's in the first port). For any further assistance, please call us at 1-800-435-0640 (USA and Canada only) M - F 6am - 6pm PT and I or another available Technician will assist you.

Thank you for selecting Kingston as your upgrade partner.

Hey thanks for the quick reply! C:
So I installed windows 8 on the HDD and our worked fine. Does that mean my computer just isn't recognizing the SSD?

Hard to say, but I suspect that there may be something physically wrong with the SSD, in which case you probably want to take it back to the store and get a replacement. if it is still under warranty and you are still in possession of the receipt (very important), there are no reason for them to refuse your request.

Good luck!
