Internal vs External HDDs for Data Backup

I've been thinking about backing up the stuff on my PC and I was wondering whether internal or external would be best. I have many spare internal/external drives (most are Seagate Barracuda 2-4TB drives) so I was wondering what I should go with.

It depends on what you prefer.
I would rather have a backup in an external driver, rather than having it on my internal HDD. However, since you have that much space and so many of them, why not have one external, and one internal backup, just to be sure and have more options when restoring your computer.

So in your situation, i would just go for both options, but if you only want one backup, then external would be my choice

Have you considered getting a drive caddy? This would enable you to quickly switch between your many drives for external backup etc - this would be my suggestion

Don't rely on one drive for backup though - none of them last forever... but then I'm a bit paranoid about data loss, which is why I have a Drobo. Cloud backup should be your first line of defense though

Yeah, use some cloud server to store things too, if it's legal things we are talking about. Otherwise i don't think it would be so smart, but i don't really know how the cloud stuff works

Just copy and paste if it's just some folder. I don't know about the whole Operating system backup though

The easy way is to just copy and paste, but that also takes time - cloud backup systems can be set to automatically be backing up selected folders when you're online, and there's backup software you can buy (or it might be free...) that will automatically backup for you at specific times

A drive caddy like this:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/DUAL-DRIVE-DOCKING-STATION-eSATA/dp/B009WK1UY4/ref=sr_1_sc_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1405598065&sr=8-3-spell&keywords=drive+cddy

.. has the advantage that if you have many drives, you can swap them in and out really quickly and easily.

A Drobo is a RAID specifically setup for really easy (instant) drive changes for when one fails - http://www.drobo.com/ - which like the caddy is also a good option if you have a lot of spare drives lying around

... but start by investigating Windows Backup (you have it already...)

I haven't looked into this for a while (it doesn't really work when you're working with video as I do) but typically, you get a certain amount of space free, and then pay if you want more, etc
