Heatsink won't fit on my motherboard

So, I just received my FX-8350 and the heatsink that came along with it. However, when I tried to install it on my motherboard ( ASUS M5A97 R2.0 ), the hatch(I think I said it right) won't clip on the other side. I tried applying some pressure, but I don't want to "kill" the CPU or the Motherboard. Please, help me.

Are you talking about the silver lid that closes on the chip, or something on the stock cooler?

I'm talking about the lid. But I managed to squeeze it in somehow, I just hope it will still work. I'm waiting for my RAM to arrive. But I had to push down the heatsink pretty hard. And I can't close the safety lid down, it's that tight...

Some heatsinks are a struggle to get on.

Hopefully you aligned the register marks (should be a little gold arrow or triangle) on the chip and the chip socket before you pushed it down.

Yeah, I did, I checked it three times. I just hope that I don't have to replace the heatsink anytime soon lol.

Good on you - I'm always super-paranoid about it. Seen too many people screw their chips up by being careless with it.
