Got myself stuck!

Hi all, I'm new to the forum and was hoping someone would be able to help me!

I am in the process of building a new PC from scratch and was hoping to base it on the following hardware:

Processor: AMD FX-9370 8-Core.
Motherboard: Asus SABERTOOTH 990FX.
Graphics: XFX R7-250A-ZLF4 - Radeon R7 250.
RAM: Kingston HyperX FURY Black Series - DDR3 - 4 GB - DIMM 240-pin - 1866 MHz / PC3-14900 (x2).
PSU: Corsair CX750M.
Case: Cooler Master Silencio 352 Mid Tower.
Cooling: Corsair H100i Hydro Series water cooling, 2x 120mm case fans (total of 4 120mm case fans as there is two on the radiator).
Storage: RevoDrive Bootable PCIe SSD 80GB & 1TB cards

I spent a lot of time researching the best setup for my budget and that's what I ended up with.

I have already purchased the case, water cooling, power supply and 80GB PCIe SSD drive.

I have also fitted the PSU to the case and also the radiator and all fans.

I now realise that the case is too small for the motherboard I intended on buying!!! The case is mATX and the motherboard is ATX. Problem I have now is whether or not I should buy another case (not ideal) or find an mATX motherboard that will support my 2 PCIe SSD drives and my PCIe graphics card. The SSD's must be on a x4 or larger slot and the graphics card is capable of x32!

I then also realised that the motherboard I was looking at originally doesn't support my 220W processor!!

I cant seem to find a motherboard that has 3 PCIe slots at the required speeds, that can support 220w am3+ processors!

What do I do?

well... scrap your CPU as the FX-9xxx are way too overpriced and too power hungry... You can clock a FX-8xxx to that frequency easily... Or go intel and be better off :D /personally I'd go with an i5+750ti as a decent gaming combo, but.../ :D

also, that cpu+mobo+gpu will set you back about $450. which is the same amount as GA-Z97MX-Gaming microatx MOBO+ i5 4790K + 750ti. which seems a better choice, imho :D

Thanks for your reply. I don't think it will be cheaper to buy a new case because I'm buying a new board regardless, just hoping to find one that suits my requirements. The three PCIe slots are for my 2 PCIe SSD's and my GPU. I don't plan to crossfire, I only need the GPU because there is no onboard on the motherboards ive been looking at, if I can find one with onboard then ill scrap the card and only need 2 PCIe slots. I will be using the PC for music production and the programs I use don't require a good graphics card. I wont be playing any games.

Sorry if I didn't explain myself properly!

Really? I don't care about power consumption, and I'm getting a good deal on one, plus the more cores the better, my music programs seem to like it (can run more vsti plugins etc.). Always had good experiences with AMD, and I feel you get more for your money, or at least for what I need to use it for...

Also want to avoid overclocking as id rather keep the warranty, If I feel It needs it then I will. This PC is going to be a big step up from my current.

Thanks, but that list seems incomplete, I've found mATX boards that support my CPU but they don't have the PCIe slots I need. Cant remember which board it was but it didn't have onboard GPU so I needed at least 3 PCIe slots at 4x and over.

Heres the list I found: http://www.pc-specs.com/cpu/AMD/FX/FX-9370/1876/Compatible_Motherboards

The board I'm looking at now then is this: ASRock 990FX Extreme9

As it supports the 220W MAX of my CPU. That's if I cant find an mATX board.

New case and different board I think is the solution..

in that case how does the GA-Z97MX-Gaming Mobo + i7 4790K sounds? it has an integrated gpu and powerwise it is several steps ahead that FX :D

Wow, that's crazy how much less power it uses! And is faster. And manages graphics, but will this effect the processor speed though? i.e will the gpu side take some of the overall power away? Either way it does seem like a much better processer but the price tag is almost double!

Hmm.. Its defo worth considering, the motherboard is perfect...

Ok that didn't take much convincing me, Im going to go for it I think. Need to double check the H100i is compatible but other than that I cant see any reason not to.

It also has a slot designed for the PCIe SSD's I'm installing that bring it up to 10Gb/s.

I can only assume you have (or want) this setup??

Thanks!

Which do I go for?? Both same price:

GA-Z97MX-Gaming Mobo

or

Asus TUF Z97 Gryphon Armor Edition

Also ive decided to go for a 1TB hybrid sata drive 6gbs. Its half the price of the PCIe one and the same speed.

I wont be using the audio driver. I will have an external interface or maybe a pcie interface now I have the spare slot(s).

Going for the Asus Z97M-PLUS now. Seems to suit my needs perfectly.

Thanks for the help everyone.
