hi,

Past 2 days or so there has been a smell like melted solder coming from my computer, im pretty sure its from my PSU because that's where the smell is quite strong. I opened it up but everything seemed fine, no blown capacitors or nothing, There was dust but i managed to clean it.

just recently as well my GTX 570 died on me when I was playing a game, PC restarted, display problems, Gfx card wasn't detected so i took it out. The problem might be related to this.

I've checked the motherboard and everything but everything seems fine, temps are normal, there are no freezes or problems when im using the pc.

Using Antec 750W Earthwatts

Could be an issue keep a close eye on the PSU , you don't want it to ruin any other components.

I 2nd that!

Unfortunately the only power supply I've ever had blow and take other components with it, was, you guessed it Antec!

That's why the only thing I buy from Antec now is their computer cases.

This power supply model is still on the market.

That's Bad! :pfff:

I stick with either Enermax, Silverstone, Seasonic, or PC Power & Cooling, (After a tested approval review), I have too much invested in hardware to take any chances on power supply quality.

I was using a calculator http://coolermaster.outervision.com/ and it said 403 watts.

And another i was using another one i found on a different thread here and it said 430 watts.

But lets say i get a 750 watt psu and it uses half , is it considered not efficient?

also i might make a new thread instead of this one.

Sorry to resurrect an old question, but I actually have the exact same problem with my Antec Earthwatts 750W. My GTX560ti died (memory) and I noticed just the faintest smell coming from my PSU when I was back behind my tower. On closer inspection, the smell is definitely originating from the PSU and it smells exactly like solder. It's such a faint smell though that I can't even smell it from top of the tower, only the bottom where the PSU is located.

Did you ever end up replacing your PSU? and if you didn't, does your Antec still emit a faint solder smell?

You should replace it before it really goes bad and takes out other components.

I didnt end up replacing the PSU. I got a GTX 770 and everything is fine and i couldn't smell anything after that.
