Motherboard or Psu problem

I had my asrock z87 pro4 motherboard for about 6 months now and have had my computer working fine. Just recently there was a big thunderstorm and I heard a loud crack that I think struck our house. I went to go see If my computer would turn on but it didn't. So I took out the psu and did the paperclip test and it worked fine and it also powered up another computer of mine. The problem is when I have it plugged into my motherboard and I have it in a breadboard configuration with CPU, psu, and 1 stick of ram it does not turn on. The CPU fan does not spin and no post or beeps and psu doesn't turn on. Here's the thing though is when I have the paper clip in the main 24 pin power connector while everything is plugged into the motherbaord my psu will turn on when I flip the psu power switch and my CPU fan starts spinning but I still don't get a beep an it does not post at all? I have a feeling it's the morherboard or a faulty wire in psu but I'm not sure and I'm stumped on what to do? Please if anyone has had this problem or might have an answer please respond? Thank you

Sounds like something fried in the mobo

Thanks for your opinion and I will probably just but a new mobo but seems strange that it didn't fry the psu before the mobo

Well if it was an electrical surge (most likely) it can run right through the PSU (relatively safely as it's used to more power) but thenn it hits the mobo with more power than it can really handle and it's not a smooth increase in power, it's just BOOM! which can fry numerous parts of the mobo, could look for scorch (dark) marks on the mobo and possibly find exactly where

None of the capacitors were blown out but I can't find any dark spots but on the back of my mobo there appears to be some sort of residue along the edges and I have no clue where it came from at all

Something may have arced across the board

As you mention arcing, is it possible that one of my stand offs could have causes the arcing or would it be something else that caused the arcing??

I could take it into computer repair shop and just ask them but will probably end up purchasing a new mobo, but might not buy asrock

If you do look, take a look at the Z87-A or better (upgradeable) the Z97-A from Asus, great mobos ;)

After taking it to the computer repair shop the verdict seems to be the motherboard because the guy there used a post code pci card and it showed that the mobo had died. Also he tests my psu and everything came back good so he said it was most likely mobo or CPU but I know it's not CPU hence no scorch marks around the socket and no burning smell from CPU. So definitely the motherboard.
