I'm going to build a rig, which is workstation graded. So i was wondering what type of processor should i use to make my 3ds max rendering faster and why it makes it faster, so that i can at least understand something. Sadly information about workstations is limited in my country (Malaysia) all the retailers don't know anything :'( . And maybe recommend any graphics cards or any hardware that can make renderings faster. Please guys, i will appreciate your answers and expertise.

Note : i'm using 3ds max 2013 with vray. Planing to upgrade to 3ds max 2015 with vray also. About budget, my budget is almost RM 7,000.00 which is 2200 USD . Sry for my english. I don't mind long answers, at least i learn something. Thanks all ;)

Hi, I'm an architect and I also make all of the performance workstations for my firm. I also use 3dsmax, maya, rhino etc, and they all have very similar requirements for processor and graphics cards.

So to start off, you're going to want a lot of cores, a good amount of memory (16gb is a good amount unless your models are very large). You also want an Nvidia video card. A lot of people will say you want a workstation graphics card, but those underperform for the cost and are really only needed for tons of displays or for very precise applications such as engineering and medical imaging.

I've assembled a list on partspicker that meets your budget. I'm not sure what parts you have already, so the graphics card can be upgraded if you...

I've heard you need to pack alot of RAM to be rendering high resolution/ textured 3d entities. Also operating system to use it at maximum (64-bit). CPU is very important so it can carry the load.
