I have a HP Pavilion a810n with 512MB of Ram. It can be upgraded to a max of 2GB of Ram. (2x1GB) When I install 1GB Ram the computer works fine. When I add the 512MB or 1GB Ram to the 2nd slot my computer won't power up. What's my problem? Thank You

your specs says 2.0 GB (2 X 1 GB) requires the replacement of the installed 512 MB DIMM

I thought that's what I did, I took out the 512 MB DIMM and replaced it with a 1GB and the computer works fine. It's when I add the 512MB or 1GB to the 2nd slot the computer won't power up? Thanks

Mixing two RAM sticks, regardless of brand or model, that didn't come together in a matched kit may have compatibility issues such as unable to boot or unable to operate at rated specifications.

A new memory module has never been tested with your existing memory so compatibility cannot be guaranteed.

As the previous poster wrote the specs state:
Memory Installed 512 MB (1 x 512)
Maximum allowed 2.0 GB (2 X 1 GB) requires the replacement of the installed 512 MB DIMM

I took the 512MB DIMM out and install 2 x 1GB Ram that came in a match kit for my Pavilion a810n and the computer won't power up?

All three sticks work fine by them self in the first slot, its when I add a stick to the 2nd slot my computer won't power up. The new sticks were sold as a 2GB upgrade for my computer HP Pavilion a810n. They came in a matching kit 2x1GB. I assumed the rating was correct because they were sold for my computer, but now that you have asked, I'm having a hard time verifying that information with the company I bought them from. R.K. Wholesalers Inc. I will respond if I have any luck with the specs.

The whole purpose for the 2GB Ram upgrade is so I can upgrade my old computer from windows xp to windows 7. I think that's all I'm missing.
