I have a pentium 3258 i am trying to overclock and whatever i do the motherboard resets it back to 3.2ghz every time i save the configuration and reboot. I have all core ratio on 3.6 ghz (which isnt a high overclock for this chip at all!). Please help me get this cpu overclocked!
My specs:
Intel Pentium g3258 anniversary edition
Corsair h80i AIO cooler
Gigabyte z97n-wifi
gtx 760 mini itx

The battery (CMOS) in the center(isn) area of the board is dead. Replace it.

That battery provides power to hold your settings in bios memory.

As long as the power is connected the CMOS will not reset despite of battery fail. Aside from that the clock would reset itself too every time he would reboot.

Flashed a new BIOS, but now the overclock is all over the place. I have it set for 4.3 ghz in the bios, but it fluctuates from the low 3 ghz all the way to 3.9 ghz?

edit: also disabled all power saving functions like c1 c3 c6 etc to where the frequency doesnt change on idle, still no luck

I have it disabled as well, still nothing. It is sticking around 3.3-3.4 ghz.

It looks like I was supposed to do a reset to default after the bios and now I have my g3258 overclocked to 4.0 ghz! Currently have it on 1.3v vcore but it will be turned down when i start playing more with OC's. Thank you so much, I thought I was going to have to RMA!

does your bios have a thermal monitoring option (on/off)?

Yes it does, but i am back again sadly. When i boot into ubuntu it still says my default clock of 3.2ghz, which im guessing means the overclock wasnt successful.

Sorry to hear that. What speed does the bios say after a reset? did you turn off thermal monitoring (do-so)?

Frequency in bios is showing 4.0 ghz (hovering around 3.8-4.0), thermal monitoring is off.

what are the core temperatures under heavy load and/or idle?
Also, did you:

Set the PWM Phase Control to eXM Perf

also disable EIST setting on board if manually over clocking. I believe it is for those 1-button over clocks
