I will need to back up a lot of family photo on archive grade gold dvds and i want to have the best recoding possible. I am putting together a system and i have several dvd burners around the house from older computers i saved for parts. Most are lg.
I plan to use NERO Express because its the only software i have and it came with one of the burners.
My question is, are all the burners the same quality wise? Meaning as long as it burns the data with a verified burn, and doesn't provide a coaster, all the info should be burned properly? The blank dvds are expensive and i only want to do it once, Is there a way to test the actual dvd burner for mechanical or optical errors / performance like hard drives are tested with SMART?
