I do have knowledge in some gpu overclocking, but literally none at all in cpu. I've heard that the fx-6300 is a very good overclocking processor, and I would like to learn how, get a safe cpu overclock, and achieve better framerates in games. First things first, is my current hardware worth the effort to overclocking my cpu?

CPU: FX-6300 @ 3.5 GHz (currently)
Mobo: Gigabyte 970A-DS3P
Cooler: Asetek 510LC Liquid Cooling
GPU: Asus GTX 760
RAM: 16GB DDR3
PSU: SevenTeam 600w

Solution
I have a FX 6300 so I can give first hand experience with that and can tell you that it overclocks great. The best way to get a safe overclock would be going up on your multiplier until you get blue screens for voltage, then up the vCore a few notches (go slow with the voltage). If you want to push your overclock even higher once you reach the highest multiplier OC you can get you can raise the base clock, do be careful though because it will increase the clocks of memory, PCIe, and all other motherboard functions. Also be careful for VRM temperatures, your CPU temp should not get above 65C at load. You want to look at the core temperature vs package temperature.

Thank you for the quick reply, but as I said earlier, I really don't know how to overclock my cpu at all, and that's why I'm here. But from what I do know, to overclock you have to get into the BIOS or whatever I think. How do you do this in the first place? From a video I watched some one said to press delete as you start up. Is this true?

Each motherboard has a different key, it will say something like: "Press {whatever key it is} to enter setup". once you get into there there should be an overclock settings tab (M.I.T. for Gigabyte I believe) I know it is usually delete but I have also seen it being F12

Sorry for the wait. Anyway, I've figured out how to get there and it is indeed the delete key. Before I try to overclock this, do you think my cpu cooler is sufficient for the overclock? Also I heard the motherboard plays a big role in overclocking as well. That being said, is my mobo also good enough?

Sorry for the late reply, you should be good on *mild* overclocks. I got mine to 5GHz on a similar motherboard from MSI, I am on a custom loop watercooling system though. Take baby steps and you should be fine, you might want to get a better fan for the radiator however.
