I'm looking between the I3 or fx 4300 this pc will be for gaming I like the fx but the I3 upgrade path is much better I don't know but to pick. My GPU is the r7 260x it's a budget build
I'll be playing games from minecraft to battlefield when it comes to graphics so indie to AAA games

I would not recommend a dual core processor for any time of gaming. The FX-6300 should be around the same price as the FX-4300. Go with the FX-6300. The i3 is a low-end processor designed for basic PC use such as Office and web surfing.

Not really...the Pentiums and Celerons are what's designed for office and web surfing. The i3 has hyperthreading, and is overall a contender for the low to mid gaming market.

I will agree that the 6300 will probably offer better performance due to 6 vs. 2 cores, but AM3+ is an ever aging socket, and offers no real upgrade path.

Exactly. If OP was not concerned with the "upgrade path," then i would recommend an FX-6300 in a heartbeat

A Haswell Core i3 is faster than an FX-6300 in games. The -6300 gets pretty close by being overclocked, but its almost never faster. Unless you're running Cinebench and Handbrake all day, go with the i3.
