Hello all,

My old system is running some 3gb 1600mhz ram but, during POST, it only recognizes 1024 mb(1gb). When I go into my bios, it recognizes 3gb in slots 1,2, and 5. Is there any solution?

Specs:
i7 920
Msi x58-e pro
Windows xp pro 32 bit
5770

EDIT..........

Yes I meant 1,3,5,sorry

Solution
Hi,

The capacity seen in the BIOS is read from the SPD located on each DIMM. The SPD is an EEPROM that contains information about each DIMM.

The total capacity seen during the POST screen is the amount that the firmware validates and maps into the physical address space.

If the numbers don't match then it's possible that one or more of the modules has failed. You should first reseat the DIMMs (remove and reinsert firmly) and then test them individually to try and narrow down the fault.
