I have a brand new Lenovo Y50-70 Touch Windows 8.1 that shuts off with no warning.
I have been searching the internet for days for help, but most solutions always just go to overheating and checking for dust.
*It is not overheating* and there is no dust I just got it a week ago.
What I have done though is add a stick of 8GB to the existing 4GB.
I swapped out the Hybrid 1TB 5400rpm hard drive for a Crucial MX100 512GB SSD.
There is a NVIDIA Geforce GTX 860M dedicated 2GB graphics card.
The processor is a i7 4700mq 2.4GHZ processor.
I first cloned the hard drive with Acronis newest update.
That was causing problems so I was told by Best Buy to do a clean install
so I bought a new copy of Windows 8.1 and did that very thing.
I installed Driver Max to fix the missing drivers and my device manager is up and running with no errors.
The game I am mostly playing because I don't have a controller yet is OLD it is Roller Coaster Tycoon 3. So my machine should obviously be fine handling that load.
I was in Dallas a few days ago and spoke to a tech at a computer store. He told me that it should not be the memory as many computers come with mismatched pairs of memory right from the factory.
He said it was not a heat issue (which I agree) because as soon as it turns off I can instantly restart it, also the program speed fan as only ever shown my highest temp at 65C while warm, was told it is good under 75C.
He recommended that I get the recovery software directly from Lenovo in case the original hard drive was corrupt. Here I was on the fence because if it were the original hard drive, me getting a new windows copy should have fixed that.
However, I ordered it anyway as I have tried numerous approaches.
Note* I do not know if the old hard drive had these problems because I got the laptop and new hard drive the same day so it was an instant change over. If the recovery does not work I will try the old drive to see if it is the motherboard.
I noticed on my flight from Dallas that I could play RC3 all flight and no shut downs while it was running on battery.
Also in the Event Log I have gotten 3 issues that did stand out. Event ID 41, which I believe is just letting me know that it shut down improperly. But under warnings there is Event ID 3 talking about the adapter timing out, and Event ID 37 this one seems the most concerning.
It said "The speed of processor 5 in group 0 is being limited by system firmware. The processor
has been in this reduced performance state for 16865 seconds since the last report."
This seems to possibly be an issue but could not find any answers online.
All my drivers are up to date as far as Driver Max (paid) is concerned.
This thing is new so I do not like the problems I am having, and if it weren't for the changes I made, I might have just returned the thing.
If the recovery does not work, I will try to swap the old drive in and see if that does it there as well. If it does not, I will assume it is a bad drive from Crucial.
