G.SKILL Ripjaws X or Crucial Ballistix

Hi,
I'm sorry if this particular question has been asked before, but I have to make a choice about memory. I have to decide between the G.SKILL Ripjaws X (link:G.SKILL Ripjaws X) or the Crucial Ballistix (link:Crucial Ballistix). They have the same exact specs, but the Ballistix has a lower CAS latency than the Ripjaws X (9-9-9-27 vs 9-10-9-28). The Ballistix also has 13 PERFECT reviews, while the Ripjaws has some bad reviews. I would like to NOT get a DOA set, though. I don't really have a brand preference. Which one is better?

Thanks in advance!

Never really been a fan of Crucial, they don't really make higher performance sticks, and tend to go more for the upgrade market. I like strong sticks (and by that I mean - OC well and above spec) that people can grow with (continue to use with things like CPU or combo mobo/CPU upgrades, if nothing else as starter sticks)...Just had a gentleman come by a couple weeks back wanting to replace an older 1156 rig (his son sent him, I've built a couple rigs for the son) and anyway, he wanted faster DRAM (2133), so I suggested a few and he asked about Crucial, said he had them in his 1156 (4x1GB), and we took a look, they didn't have anything above 1866 at the Egg, and the 1866 sticks are predominantly CL9 (OK) or CL10 (slow)

I trust Crucial. G.Skill has some good prices though.

Either way, get a kit of 2, don't buy two seperately, as they are only guaranteed to run at 1866 together if they are paired already.

OK...
I'm getting a single stick because the mobo I'm getting only has 4 RAM slots, and if I get a 2x2 GB set, I'm not sure if another 2x4 GB kit will work with it because I would want more that 8 GB of RAM (games in the future might need more than 8 GB of RAM to load ultra-large maps, for example). If I get a single stick, I could get three more of the same RAM later and have a dual dual-channel RAM setup (that'll work, right?). BTW, I don't need them (the memory) to run at 1866, YET. I only need 1333 or 1600.

If not 2x2GB would go 2x4GB, chances of finding 4 individual sticks down the road that will all play together isn't all that high. Any time you mix DRAM from different packages it can be and often is problematic, even of the same exact model. That's why there is such a variety of sets out there, sticks in a package have been tested to play together. Also, of the two, I'd go the RJ X, their sticks are stronger than Crucial

Yeah I meant a kit of 2x4, 8GB is a good spot for gaming. if you want to go up in the future and not get a kit you should probably get 1600mhz because like tradesmen mentioned and I mentioned, different packages can be problematic and even if they are both rated to run at 1866 that doesn't mean they will work together.

Oh, OK...
I've got a question, though. How is the Ripjaws X RAM better than the Ballistix?

Thanks.

BTW, I'm planning to buy a Pentium G3258 and a Gigabyte GA-Z97X-Gaming 7 motherboard, if that helps make a decision. I also went for 8 GB (2x4 GB). I'm looking at the G.SKILL Sniper (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231655) and Trident (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231621). Which one is better?

Thanks.

Oh, OK...
I'll go with G.SKILL, then. I have another question, though. I have two choices for RAM, the Sniper and Trident listed in my previous post. The motherboard I want is on the Sniper's QVL but not on the Trident's. Is it okay then to get the Tridents or will it not work? I would prefer the Tridents because they are OC RAM and they look cooler. BTW the motherboard I want is also in my previous post.

Thanks!
