Question about gaming on an HDTV

So I've owned a 2010 Sony KDL32EX500 television for awhile and was wondering how bad an LCD TV is for PC gaming? I'm about to build my first PC gaming rig with the intent on having this television to be used as my monitor. Now currently I understand that an actual monitor is the best choice for PC gaming due to low input lag.

Probably over the holiday season I'll get a cheap monitor, but until then will the HDTV suffice and does anyone have any recommendations to reduce the input lag on an LCD screen as much as possible? Will PC gaming on a LCD television be a pain or will it still be somewhat enjoyable?

I've been using my 32" Samsung 1080p HDTV for years due to my poor-ish eyesight. No problems at all. I've even run SLI and CF setups on it, had a 2nd monitor connected to the 2 cards as well. But a lot will depend on the TV's compatibility with DVI or HDMI connecting to a PC. On mine for instance, only one of the HDMI inputs presents a suitable display. My TV's manual specifies which one to use for connecting to a PC. So be sure to check your TV manual to see if there is a disclaimer for that.
