Hi guys,
I recently bought sapphire r9 270x,link mentioned below.
www.sapphiretech.com/presentation/product/product_index.aspx?pid=2037&lid=1#

I its features i saw
Dolby® TrueHD and DTSHD Master Audio™ Support

Support for copy protected, high bandwidth, 7.1 channel surround sound over HDMI. Get a fully immersive, high definition audio experience with the latest Blu-ray movies. (Requires a DVI to HDMI dongle on some models, an HD capable monitor and a Blu-ray drive)

Does it means its having inbuilt sound or any technology or any sound hardware...My monitor has HDMI and sound port...IF i use HDMI and sound port of monitor ...will i be getting better sound than the ports in motherboard..

And whats the meaning of 7.1 channel surround sound over HDMI?
will i be able to use 7.1 really when connecting my headphones to monitor.
GPU will use its own sound hardware or it will use mobo only sound hardware...Please guys do reply..
Thanks,
Naveen

It means, the card can provide better visual experience (both in audio and video) while watching Blu-ray movies that come with 7.1 Channel audio when connected through HDMI.. You can notice well in games than in movies.. If HDMI supports only 5.1 Ch and you play a 7.1 Audio, you'll get only a 5.1 Ch sound effects only.. Take a look at this..

You select any one as the audio output device and that's where the audio goes.
And no, you cannot experience 7.1 Ch in a ordinary headphone/headset, you need a 7.1 Ch headset/headphone (google it and see) for 7.1Ch sound effects..
A very good sound card will offer better sound effects than the port in the GPU..

Hi,
Thanks for reply...But i am not purchasing sound card for few years, till then just want to know...what will be the better option using sound from ports of motherboard or using sound over HDMI with headphones connected in monitor...will the sound over HDMi will be better? with 7.1 ch headphones?

If you have a better quality sound card in motherboard, the motherboard ports will be the best.. Since you're not having that now and planning to purchase it in the future, the HDMI will offer goo sound quality too, you can go for it. But keep in mind, you get a high quality 7.1 headphone/headset..
