PC Specs

CPU: FX 8320 3,5 Ghz stock
VGA: Sapphire R9 290 TRI X OC
MOBO: GA-990FXA-UD3
RAM: 2X4GB 1600 MHZ
PSU: CX600

I recently upgraded my gtx 560ti to r9 290 and i've been testing my new gpu in games and the fps seems did not reach what i expected from most games. In AC3, AC4, BF3, BF4, Hitman Absolution the fps and gpu usage increases and decreases randomly from 80 to 30, then it jumps for 90 and goes back to 45. It's as if my pc recognize my old vga instead of the new one. The only games that i've tested and i dont have problems are thief and sniper elite nazi zombie army 2. Check these pics for more information.

As you can see temps are ok. Before i change gtx for r9 i uninstalled nvidia drivers, used ddu for clean uninstall in safe mode, desfragmented my hd. I'm using 14.4 driver, already used the beta one, but there's no difference. I play in full hd, use windows 8.1 64bits. Playing with vsyn on or off doesn't make any difference, neither on ultra or low. FPS and gpu usage keeps dropping. I'm going to format my pc tomorrow to verify if it brings any improvement. Need help !

Your PSU might not be up to the task. You are pushing it.

Your frame rate drops might be normal because AC3 and AC4 are more optimized for Nvidia hardware...

The 290 should give you exceptional performance with BF3 and Bf4 however frame drops are possible on some multiplayer maps and servers.

The Bf4 Campaign does have some steep drops in the campaign...

But, if the problem is in my psu, why thief and the other game would be running great ? I used a lot psu calc and all say my psu is enough for my rig

r9 290 is very strong, and should be running these games much better than it is, despite ac3 and ac4 being more optimized for nvidia. I saw plenty reviews with it running bf4 80 ~ 110 fps on ultra. I cant even run in 60 without big drops

AC3 & AC4 are challenging games for the R9 290, settings need to be lowered for better performance.

On some bf4 Server/Maps I get drops in the 40's @ 1440p with my 780 ti...

Seems like your fps is normal, I suggest you get a better PSU however for increased system stability and possibly performance however don't expect a significant gain in performance...

Did you max out all the settings in AC3 and AC4?

yes, and tried the lowest settings too, but that doesn't improve much the performance. FPS and gpu usage keep changing randomly...

You definitely have a problem if the lowest settings get you low fps.

Trying a better power supply is a good place to start...

Extensive troubleshooting might need to be done to resolve the problem.

Have you updated your bios?? I think I recall hearing there might be voltage issues with some of Gigabytes UD3 boards. Goggle.
