Hello,
I tried to do an automatic overclocking with 5-Way Optimization tool. After the oc process has finished, the maximum frequency that I get was 4.6, witch is with 200 mhz more than turbo frequency. I am more than disappointed taking into account that I have a big cooler and a processor witch should be the latest and greatest. The second part of the problem is that the cooler frequency is always maximum after Windows is finishing loading, even thought the cpu freq is 0.8 Ghz(idle). I manage to get rid of this problem by uninstalling only 5-Way Optimization.

Components:
motherboard: asus z97 pro
processor: I7 4790k
cooler: scythe mugen max
thermal paste: arctic cooling MX-4
case: zalman z11 plus
power source: corsair 650
ssd
I'm using 4 coolers: 2 for intake(front and bottom), 2 for exhaust.
I am not using any external gpu because I'm not a gamer.

So why only 4.6 Ghz?

Solution
Getting a discrete GPU would help more than the integrated graphics, GPUs arent only for gaming.
About the fans, you should be able to make them run at lower speeds changing the settings in the bios, in the monitor tab.

The CPU wil downclock to 800MHz when idling due to the Intel speedstep characteristic. Can be disabled in the BIOS, but not recommended.
Fans run at max speed unless you adjust the settings in the BIOS or with software like FanXpert from the AI suite (has at least 4 profiles: silent, standard, turbo and full speed)
If not gaming or at least using a discrete GPU for heavy tasks like video rendering...why even OC the CPU? Actually, why even a i7?

Hello. Thanks for your replay. I'm an engineer and I do digital design. With a core 2 quad at 3.2 it took me 8 hours to finish the synthesis... I'm not gamer. I wanted to overclock the cpu only when it's really needed. Anyway today I updated the motherboard firmware and I try again the same procedure. This time the cpu cooler frequency is almost 1000 rpm(max 1300) ...and it's not fixed. I didn't change anything. I really think that it was a bug...but still disappointed with the OC capabilities.

Yes you are right. Only in bios this thing works because as soon the windows finishes loading the fan was, once again, at high speed. Seeing your post reminded me of one thing. Before the 5-Way Op the cpu fan was visible in the fan config. After the 5-Way Op the temperature chart of cpu has disappeared and instead of cpu was a question mark. That's way I think is a bug.
P.S. : I don't think I need a gpu because I don't do rendering.
