Is 'Windforce' The Same As 'GHz Edition'? (+Bonus 780 vs 290)

Hello,

I am looking at different brands of GTX780's lately but I came across two I am quite interested in - WIndforce and GHz Edition.

I know my local shop sells 780 WIndforce but I could not find 'GHz Edition' anywhere in Australia. Is it because GHz Edition is the same as Windforce but different names? Apparently the GTX780 GHz Edition performs so close to a 780Ti.

And I know I have asked this question before - I am keeping an eye on the R9 290. Can anyone persuade why should I buy a 780 or 290 one over another? I keep changing my mind every month, earlier I was going for a 780, then a 290, now leaning for a 780. I will not buy a reference model ofcourse, please recommend me a 780 in this shop: http://www.umart.com.au/pro/products_listnew.phtml?bid=9&id=10&id2=247&list=1
I already decided for a 290 would be a Tri-x or Vapor-X (if I plan to get them).
Plus I only have a 600W PSU, Do I really need to upgrade the PSU?

Budget: $600 Australian (for a GPU). $150 for a PSU (if needed, otherwise the whole $750 will be spent to buy a card, no higher than $750)

Upgrading from a 270X just before Christmas.
Please use http://www.umart.com.au/ or PCcasegear as reference as they are Australian shops that I can access (no overseas shipping).

Thank you.

For Gigabyte non-reference models, they are all part of the branding Windforce.
Ghz edition simply means factory overclocked to 1Ghz for the base clock speed.

I would suggest you to upgrade your power supply.
i would suggest these:

With your budget, you can get a GTX 780.:

Or get a R9 290 which will be cheaper.

For R9 290, i would say the Sapphire coolers are among the best cooler for a R9 290 along with Gigabyte.
Here are some reviews of R9 290 and their temps and noise.

Thanks for the answers. I think I'll just wait for more games to come out so I can look at some benchmarks. I am more likely to lean towards the 290 again since it is very helpful for applying more anti-aliasing and store more textures. Then again I'll just wait for benchmarks.

Vapor-X seems good for OCing.

Is this the GHz edition?
http://www.umart.com.au/pro/products_listnew.phtml?id=10&id2=247&bid=9&sid=135731

That has a faster clock (1006Mhz) and CHEAPER than the other Windforce (900Mhz). I don't know why the 1006Mhz is cheaper, maybe because it has lower memory interface? Is that even the Ghz Edition? I couldn't find a shop that sells it (Australia).

EDIT: Nevermind, I found out that there are three editions - Windforce stock, Windforce OC and Windforce GHz Edition. The latter does not exist here.

EDIT: MSY is selling it for $630. I guess I'll stick with the 290.

No that is not the Ghz edition but the OC edition. It is in between the standard model and the Ghz edition.

Look at the model reference label. Notice that it has Ghz in it or OC. If it doesn't it is the standard model.
This would be the Ghz ediiton:
