Hi Guys. I've searched all the similar problem threads I could find, and none provided an answer or have been similar enough to my issue.

I recently purchase a new Toshiba 3TB 3.5" SATA III 6Gb/s 7200rpm 64MB Hard Drive HDD DT01ACA3 and it came in the manufacturer sealed bag.

I connected it all up to my system but when I go into the BIOS, I can't see it listed. I have experience with building PC's and I've added many HDD's to my system over the years, but never seen a problem like this. I also can't see it in Device Manager or Disk Management in my OS.

I have a Asus Maximum Hero VI motherboard that supports SATA 6Gb/s connections and I'm also using a high quality SATA III cable, and also a powder cable direct from the PSU. (Corsair TX850M PSU, so plenty of juice!)

Here are the things I've tried:

  • Used a different powder cable I know works
Used a different SATA cable I know works
Booted the system with only the new HDD connected
Booted the system with the new HDD in different SATA socket
Stripped the system of all wires and replaced them one by one to achieve best fit and layout and ensure they're all connected properly.

If anyone has had a similar problem, or knows the problem I'd be very grateful as this is driving me insane and I really would prefer not to get a refund.

Solution
If it's not detected by the BIOs but all the cables are securely connected to it and sure that it's getting power I think it might sadly be dead :(

Does it vibrate or make any sound when you boot the PC?

I couldn't hear any sound or sense movement in the HDD. I held it in my hand while there was powder to it and I couldn't feel anything. I was under the impression it was giving off some heat at one point, but I think that was just from the other drives as only the top (the side facing the next drive) was warm, while the bottom was unchanged.
