8pin can be split into a 6 pin and 2 pin ....and what is your psu ??usually you dont need the extra 6 pins connectors which comes with the package usually your psu already had them open your case check the psu cables written pci e .....

It's not unknown for makers to change specs of their cards in production but keep the same packaging, and some 7950s use 1x6 and 1x8 leads, my XFX 7950 for example does.
That powersupply is NOT going to be safe, even premium quality 400W parts could struggle with the demands of a HD7950, especially with a strong CPU so you really need to swap it for something of between 500 and 600 Watts with the correct PCI-E leads.
A lot of PSU units these days come with 6+2 leads rather than 8 pin, this is just for flexibility, the same lead can be used as a 6 pin or, by inserting the 2 pin part together the 6 pin part, as an 8 pin.
Look for: Seasonic, Silverstone, Antec, Corsair (not the 'VS' or 'CX' series), FSP (Aurium series), Rosewill (Capstone series), XFX (Pro series) or Fractal Design.

i have already told u 400 watt is not enough for that card it will run but on load many things can happen ....Radeon HD 7950 needs minimum of 25A and a 500W psu ... now its up to u ...

DON'T run any games!
At idle a HD7950 draws about 11Watts, it'll take up to 179 Watts at maximum load: http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/AMD/HD_7950/25.html
If you try running games, even undemanding ones, you risk damaging the PSU and, depending on exactly which unit it is it may damage other parts of the system.
Sorry, there is no other solution: You MUST install a better PSU with the correct leads to run the HD7950.
