I would like to get a new CPU for my computer, but I am not sure what to get in terms of compatibility with what I have and also with performance, as I do a lot of gaming and use some big 3D modelling programs.

My set up isn't too bad right now, I already upgraded the graphics card which seems to be working fine for what I have, but just want a boost for the CPU since its still the same one that the computer came with.

Specs
CPU: AMD Athlon II X2 250, Regor 45nm Technology.
RAM: 8GB Dual-Channel DDR3 @ 535MHz (7-7-7-20)
Motherboard: Gigabyte Technology Co., Ltd. GA-78LMT-S2P (Socket M2)
Graphics: AMD Radeon HD 6670
Harddrive: 466GB Hitachi HDs721050CLA362 ATA Device (Sata)

I am on a budget, looking to spend around £50, but open to all suggestions within reason.

EDIT: I think there was some confusion with my motherboard. This is what Speccy says for it:

I believe you will be looking for an AM3+ cpu.

It does NOT have a 900-series chipset; it is an old 760G. On the stated budget, replacing it or performing additional upgrades other than the CPU is not an option. Check your board's revision and compare to the QVL at gigabyte.com to see if you can run the FX-4300. If not, you might find a Phenom II, like the 720BE or 740BE. Keep it to a 95W CPU.
