Has my Motherboard failed too?

Hello,

I had a power surge at my house two weeks ago which caused my Power Supply fan to fail, so I RMA'd it to seasonic. The computer would still power up and work, but it would overheat after 30-45 mins of gaming.

I bought a temporary power supply from best buy, a Corsair CX 750M, to use until my other returns. Upon installing it, I tried to power it up and the fans/LEDs would activate for approx. one second and then turn off. I checked all my connections to no avail. So I stripped down my components to: Mobo, 1 RAM, PSU, and CPU. With this, my computer would boot to the BIOS. I installed my other 3 RAM, and it again booted to the BIOS. Hooked up my Graphics Card, and the computer would fail on start up again. I then hooked up my SSD and tried to boot without the graphics card, same issue, it would power on for a moment then power off.

Has my motherboard failed? I'm not sure what else to try at this point.

Thank you,

Is there any visible damage to the motherboard like near the 24 pin connector? It could also be possible that both the GPU and SSD somehow were damaged from the power surge and the rest of the system survived. Do you have another PC that you can test those parts on? If they work on another PC, you can rule out the possibility of them being bad and consider that the SATA and PCIe ports on your board might be the issue. You should invest in a surge protector or a UPS, BTW.

No way to test the GPU. I was able to use the SSD as a secondary via HD enclosure. No visible damage that I can tell. Everything worked prior to me uninstalling the old PSU and installing the new one. Maybe the PSUwas DOA, I'll return it and try that.

I had everything plugged in to a power supply. After the power surge, i invested in a good UPS.
