Im build a PC for my grandfather and all he does is check stuff on the computer and sometimes plays poker starts, his current PC freezes and he has to restart all the time. I have narrowed it down to him having the lack of ram, i put a half of gig of ddr2 in there which gives him 1.5gb but even then he still maxing that.

He currently has a eMachines T5230 which is a older
Athlon 64 x2 4400+
with my 1.5gb ddr2 ram
windows vista
GPU dont matter, my grandpa isnt a gamer haha

I want to gut that PC and keep the HDD, CD drive, Case, fans and maybe the PSU i havent looked at it yet, then i want to put in

Athlon 5350 on the AM1 platform
8gb (4gb x 2) of team vulcan ram
ASUS AM1M-A AM1 motherboard

are these specs an overkill for internet browsing and pokerstars, and do you think 8gb is to much? should i go for 4gb? do you think this build will fix his freezing he is having?
btw when it freezes it locks up and if you hit anything on the keyboard, it does a loud "BEEP"

Thanks, MrAcd

Get a chromebook thats one option. And yes he doenst need 8 gigs so you can get 4 gigs. Its not an overkill but maybe the motherboard is just way too good for an A1. The internet speed depends on your actual internet speed.

yeah i understand the whole internet speeds, but he is experiencing slow speeds throughout the PC. like if he opens up to many programs it will freeze and do the old Microsoft bios type beep. he looking to just rebuild the current desktop for a cheap price, he is maxing 1.5gb so you think 4gb will be enough? and do you think the CPU is to much just for that?

no the cpu is good i think he will need that and 4 GB is enough. The freezing is a problem with the pc but sometimes if it takes too long to load a webpage it is your internet. Im not an internet specialist but its stuff to do with your modem and how fast is your upload and download speed is.

so you should build that pc and if its too slow then go to your internet provider and ask them if they have faster internet.
